Once again, Silver Spring A&E District is top of the charts when it comes to economic impact. Since 2012 MSAC has commissioned the Regional Economic Studies Institute at Towson University to complete an annual economic impact analysis. The Maryland Arts & Entertainment District’s program has won the National Planning Achievement Award for Economic Planning & Development from the American Planning Association (APA). Giant Cardboard Robot Sculpture at Maker Faire Silver Spring
Come see what art you can create at Maker Faire Silver Spring.  Construct a paper sculpture at the booth right next to the entrance. Just look for the giant cardboard robot heralding the entrance.  The robot has been under construction for the past few weeks at KID Museum.  He is our only sculpture robot, but we have real, moving electronic robots all over the festival.  Maker Faire is in the Silver Spring A&E District at the Silver Spring Civic Building, September 14 from 12-5pm.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band
This year’s Silver Spring Jazz Festival is headlined by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band! Preservation Hall was founded in 1961 to promote traditional New Orleans jazz in all its authenticity.  Its original starts were legendary players like George Lewis, Kid Thomas Valentine, and Sweet Emma Barrett, all rooted in the formative years of jazz.  That generation is long gone now, yet the hall is still in business and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band continues to tour the world.
